Mauna Kea

I took this shot at Mauna Kea, on the Big Island in Hawaii. This inactive volcano is the highest point in Hawaii and technically the tallest mountain in the world. Instead of saying how I took the shot, I figured I would give some travel advice for going here. Overall, getting to here is not difficult, but there is essentially only two ways to get here for tourists.

Tourists can either go on a tour or drive themselves. I definitely do not suggest going on a tour because they are overly expensive and you often have to leave before the stars come out. Seeing the stars is something you do not want to miss since it is one of the best places in the world to see them. Therefore, I suggest renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle. The only place on the island that lets their rentals go to Mauna Kea is unfortunately Harper’s Rentals. They charge about $150+ a day to rent a truck, which sucks, but it is still cheaper than a tour and your can stay as long as you want. Additionally, you want to make sure to call well in advance to reserve your truck because they get their vehicles booked fast. Hope this information helps and hope you like the photo.
