If you go a little North of San Diego and follow the coast, you will hit this area known as Torrey Pines State Reserve which is right near La Jolla, California. This is a beautiful area right along the beach with giant cliffs that you can traverse around and go exploring. There are numerous hiking trails that are accessible and awesome vantage points as well. Unfortunately if you want to park then you have to pay to go inside the gate but you may get lucky and find a spot just outside the gate. This spot was actually real close to where I parked. I just got off my bike and walked right down to the beach a little ways. I wanted to created a sort of minimal feeling picture for this one and give a sense of loneliness and calmness as well. I took a few regular shots that came out alright but it didn’t real have the feel I was going for and I didn’t want to have to try and get it in Photoshop. So instead, I popped on my makeshift filter. This filter is a piece of welders glass that works as a 10 stop filter. It works awesome and only cost me like $5. The only drawback is that it gives a green hue to all of the pictures taken with it but I hear all the regular brands give some sort of hue anyway and this is easily correctible in Photoshop since I shoot in RAW. So I shot this with the filter and I knew from the first shot that the filter did what I had hoped it would. It gave the picture this eerie feel that it tends to do which I have fell in love with. I edited this photo in Photoshop CS6 by correcting the color hue and doing some curves and levels.
